My Approach
I am a firm believer that no two learners are the same. With a background working in public, charter, and homeschool settings, I am aware and exposed to traditional one-size-fits-all approaches. It's not for me, and surely, not for every kid. Even within a traditional classroom, I encourage getting up, socialization, brain breaks...yes, doodle all over the page!
Movement is necessary.
Being outside is necessary.
Self-expression and creativity are necessary.
Incorporating movement, creativity, and hands-on activities into my reading and writing instruction not only increases retention and memory, but encourages autonomy and confidence in learning overall.
I am silly, structured, and nurturing. With that, I show learners how they can be successful in something that might otherwise seem difficult, while also empowering existing literature lovers to always think bigger.
I do this because every child deserves to be seen and understood; and not based on how well they fit in the box. Whether they need extra support in reading, or they can't put a book down, they deserve someone outside of the home that sees them and understands their needs & strengths.
